Romans chapter 12, verse 2
2.
Don't copy the behavior and customs of this world, but let God transform
you into a new person by changing the way you think. Then you will
know what God wants you to do, and you will know how good and pleasing
and perfect his will really is.
"The behavior and customs of this world" are usually selfish and often
corruption, and many Christians wisely decide that much worldly behavior
is off-limits for them. Our refusal to conform to the world, however,
must go even deeper than the level of behavior and customs - it must be
firmly founded in our mind. This verse is also translated, "Do not
be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your
mind." It is possible to avoid most worldly customs and still
be proud, covetous, selfish, stubborn, and arrogant. Only when our
mind is renewed by the new attitude Christ gives us are we truly transformed.
If our character is like Christ's, we can be sure our behavior will honor
God. |
